SWWLA Meeting

Members attending:  Sandy R., Nat, Danielle, Kyle, Cathy, Dave, Char, Kirk, Dan & Linda.

 

The meeting was opened by Pres. Larry Raley.

 

The minutes were read by Secretary Sharon Rico.  Sharon K. moved to accept the minutes as read, Sandy seconded the motion and it was passed.

 

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treas. Sandy Shaddinger.  There is $1,334.97 in checking, $168.01 in savings, $7,125.00 in CD.  Lori moved the Treasurer’s Report be accepted as read, Sharon R. seconded the motion and it was passed.

 

Martha Brooks reported on the Newsletter.  An issue was just received by the membership and the next deadline will be mid-March.  The cost of a full page insert was discussed and tabled until the next meeting.

 

Nat Shaddinger reported that there were no new leads for our liability insurance policy but he will continue to search. Cathy Wooldridge will ask who insured the Llama Group in the Pasadena Rose Parade.

 

Lori Gregory reported on the Holiday Parades.  There were 10 llamas and 3 alpacas in each of the parades.  We received a thank you letter for our participation in the Macy’s Holiday Parade.  The next parade will be the Loyalty Day Parade on May 6th at Long Beach.

 

Kirk Gresham reported that Tom Musser is now in charge of the 10 day Clark County Fair and that a new person is in charge of the fair ground facility for the rest of the year.

 

Kirk also reported that 4-H youth can now take 2 llamas (one for fit and show and one for performance classes) to State Fair.  Intact males up to 24


months can now go to State Fair.  The llamas will be in the sheep barn this year.

 

New Business:

 

The Shaddingers have purchased a 21 acre farm in Mississippi, an hour from family in Memphis.  They will be moving in April.  We will need to replace Sandy as a Board Member and Treasurer.

 

Dan Myers reported that they no longer have DSL and he feels the need to be replaced as webmaster of our SWWLA Website.  It is asked we consider how best to make this replacement.

 

Llama Affaire:  Nat Shaddinger reported that the Cowlitz County facility is available on April 13-15.  Ag-fest is two weeks after.  The arena is spacious and well lit, there is parking right next to stall.  The arena is $400/day for 2 days.  The stalls are $20. for the weekend, $15 if we clean them out.  Bleachers seating 40-50 are $75/ea., PA system is $75. and is available inside the arena. 6 tables and 12 chairs will be provided.  Camp sites with elect. are $15/day.  The concession has no fee and can be there as early as 7:00am.  They ask that we not offer a courtesy table that would compete.  Larry had a list of volunteers that would be available in April in Longview.  The specs for obstac   les have changed and we will need to rebuild some.

Connie moved that we do the Llama Affaire at Cowlitz County in mid April, Martha seconded the motion and it was passed.  We will send a sanction check to ALSA and a $300. check to Cowlitz County  to reserve the facility.  Kirk will be Superintendent.  Patty Morgan, Pam Jensen, Tammy Lash and Linda Rogers were suggested as judges.  There will be straw available, no sand and no tractor this year.

 

Election of officers:   Larry Raley was nominated for Pres, Sharon Kitashima for V. Pres, Sharon Rico for Sec, and Sandy Shaddinger for Treasurer.  Sharon K moved to accept this slate of officers, Sandy seconded the motion and it was passed. 

 

Martha moved the meeting be adjourned, Sharon K seconded the motion and it was passed.
