SWWLA Annual Meeting
11-03-07
The meeting was opened by President Larry Raley. Larry introduced the Board of Directors, Stephanie Roberts, the SWWLA Webmaster, and Mary Morris, a new member.
Bob Wooldridge reported on the ALSA National Show in Lincoln Nebraska. He sent the SWWLA obstacles for the PR and Driving courses and did the course design and setup for the show. The Greshams were awarded our Regions Most Active ALSA Member Award. There was discussion regarding having 3 Regional shows instead on the National Show and how to qualify new animals for the National Show, perhaps by having a Master Class to move up the repeated show winners.
Jacob Mumford reported on the Cascade Llama Sale. It will be held on May 3-4, 2008 at the Skamania Fairgrounds in Stevenson, WA and will include alpacas next year.
Martha Brooks is the Clark County 4-H Llama Superintendent. She reported that Clark County has the most 4-H Clubs in the State with 5 clubs. She thanked SWWLA for their $250.00 donation for CC Fair awards that provided prizes for Grand and Reserve Champions in the Performance and Fitting and Showing Classes as well as the Outstanding 4-H-er Award. Five 4-H members attended State Fair in Puyallup and did well.
Kirk Gresham reported on the proposal for changes to the By-Laws regarding the wording for elected Board terms. Peggy Gresham moved that the proposed By-Law changes be accepted, Sharon Rico seconded the motion, and it was passed.
Jeanie Lindemann reported that the Fundraiser Dinner will be Saturday Feb. 2, 2008. It will be at Tri-Mountain again unless an alternative is offered or found. She asked that we keep the Fundraiser in mind as we do our Holiday shopping and let her know what donations we have ahead of the event.
Elections were held for Board Members. The Elections Committee had Larry Raley and Sharon Rico running for re-election and Danielle Casper running for election. Martha Brooks nominated Sandy Mitchell to run for election. The two positions were filled by Larry Raley and Sharon Rico. Peggy Gresham, who is the new Superintendent for the WVLF Stud Auction & Banquet, reported on their event plans for next year. It will be the 20th Anniversary event and all funds go toward the OSU Herd Maintenance, OSU Camelid Research, and Morris Animal Foundation. This year the Alpaca Assn. matched research funds and may join in the Fundraiser on March 8, 2008. Jeanie Lindemann will be in charge of donations and Larry Raley is in charge of Stud Auction List. Peggy hopes to have a slide show of the last 20 years to celebrate where the organization has been.
Sharon Rico gave a Treasurers Report. The Checking Account began this year at $1525.50. As of today the checking account balance is $1206.64, savings account balance is $168.39, and C of D balance is $7,190.10. The total balance of the SWWLA Treasury is $8,565.13.
Kirk Gresham reported on the Llama Affaire. He is looking for suggestions for judges. The dates are April 12-13, 2008. There may not be an ALSA show at Agfest the end of April. There may be a quad show May 11th in Lane County and Cola is scheduling their show in early June.
Kirk also reported on 4-H at State Fair. The Llamas were moved to the Sheep Barn and there was a great fiber display this year. He thanked SWWLA for their $250.00 donation for awards.
Larry reported on the General Meeting regarding the SWWLA Budget that was held 10-18-07. The Annual Fundraiser Dinner in February and the Llama Affaire in April are our revenue sources. The dues fund the Newsletter expenses. It was decided that in order to keep our expenditures down that 4-H support, parades and medical research will continue. Other requests for funds need to be submitted by a formal written request.
Lori Gregory reported on the upcoming parades. We are having an insurance difficulty with the Macy’s Holiday Parade because Macy’s is requiring 4 Additional Insured be added to our policy and Markel will charge $125.00 per each additional insured. Lori is researching a less expensive alternative so we can participate in the Parade. The Longview Holiday Parade is all set.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sharon Rico, Secretary
